Aerospace and Aviation

In aerospace applications, smooth surfaces in turbine blades, nozzle guide vanes and combustor components are essential to reduce friction, control airflow and prevent stress concentration. Superalloys such as CMSX-10 and Inconel 939 are widely used in hot sections where excellent surface finish helps minimize thermal fatigue and optimize aerodynamic efficiency. This is why processes like electrical discharge machining (EDM) are critical to achieving narrow tolerances and burr-free cooling channels.

Power Generation

Gas turbine blades and turbine discs used in power generation demand high surface integrity to maintain thermal efficiency and extend service life under cyclic loading. Smooth internal passages reduce stress risers and improve heat exchange performance. Powder-metallurgy alloys such as FGH97 or forged superalloys often undergo finishing via EDM to ensure crack-resistant surfaces and reliable dimensional consistency.

Oil and Gas Industry

Downhole tools, valve components and high-pressure flow control systems in the oil and gas industry rely on smooth surfaces to maintain sealing performance and resist corrosion. Nickel-based alloys like Inconel 725 and Monel series alloys benefit from EDM finishing that eliminates burrs and micro-cracks, improving their durability in extreme pressure and chemical environments.

Medical and Pharmaceutical

In the pharmaceutical and food sector, superalloy surfaces used in pumps and hygienic equipment must be extremely smooth to prevent contamination and bacterial adhesion. Controlled EDM finishing enables the creation of precision channels and smooth transitions, particularly when machining titanium alloys or duplex structures that require both corrosion resistance and excellent cleanability.
