Refined Microstructure and Strength

SLM enables rapid solidification during melting, producing a fine and uniform microstructure in Ti6.5Al1Mo1V2Zr (TA15). This results in increased tensile strength and improved phase stability under high loads. Compared with traditionally machined components, SLM-built TA15 parts offer superior structural consistency, which is essential for performance-critical aerospace frames and engine components.

Enhanced Fatigue and Thermal Performance

The layer-by-layer construction improves fatigue resistance by enabling optimized load distribution and stress path control. Ti6.5Al1Mo1V2Zr retains integrity under thermal cycling, making it highly suitable for hot structures used in aerospace and aviation and power generation environments.

Complex and Weight-Optimized Geometries

SLM allows lightweight, topology-optimized components with lattice structures and intricate internal channels to be fabricated directly from CAD data. These shapes are extremely difficult to achieve using forging or machining, giving TA15 parts significant advantages in energy efficiency and mass reduction.

Post-Processing and Property Optimization

Following printing, performance is enhanced through hot isostatic pressing (HIP) and heat treatment, which improve density, microstructural uniformity and fatigue strength. Final surface and dimensional precision are achieved using CNC machining or EDM where needed.
